Internship Credit Instructions
Registration
Obtain a Permission of Instructor purple override form from your advisor and register for the appropriate internship.
Internships are graded S/U. Normally they are for 3 hours of credit.
Obtaining the Internship
You are responsible for finding your own internship although faculty members often can assist. Check the Job Board for listings that have come to the department. You can also talk to friends and family.
Internships must involve professional work in your field. Talk to your supervising professor if you have any doubts about whether something will qualify. JMC gives credit for both paid and unpaid internships.
We normally require about 10 hours of work a week for a semester for three hours of credit but we do not monitor the hours. Many employers seek more hours.
Completing the internship
To receive credit for an internship you must write a paper describing and evaluating the internship and what it has taught you. A typical length would be five pages but ask your supervising faculty member what he/she requires.
In addition, your supervisor must complete an evaluation form that you can obtain either from your supervising faculty member or Mrs. McDonald. YOU WILL NOT GET CREDIT UNTIL YOU WRITE YOUR PAPER AND YOUR SUPERVISOR SUBMITS THIS EVALUATION.
Both your paper and the evaluation are due at the beginning of finals week along with any other requirements that individual faculty supervisors impose such as samples of your work. You are responsible for finding out these requirements.
Credit Available
You may obtain up to 12 hours of credit for internships or independent JMC studies including multiple credits for the same internship. However if you seek credit for the same internship more than one semester, you must write a paper and submit an evaluation each semester.
