Creighton is noted for its award-winning News track headed by Dr. Carol Zuegner whose credentials include years of newspaper and Associated Press reporting and editing. She is faculty advisor to the Creightonian, assisted by a professional advisor. In 2005, the Creightonian received the Nebraska Press Association Sweepstakes Award as Nebraska’s best college paper. Other awards in recent years include the selection of Creighton students as Dow Jones editing internships two years in a row (top 100 editing students in the nation) and a Scripps-Howard Foundation Key Staffer Award (one of five nationally).
News students frequently work part time at the Omaha World-Herald and other area publications as well as completing summer internships at newspapers and magazines nationally. Future sports writers can prepare for their field in the sports writing course.
