Internationally known photographer Fr. Don Doll S.J. and Tim Guthrie M.F.A. who is gaining national recognition for his innovative icons head the Photojournalism Track. Fr. Doll, who holds Kodak’s top photojournalism award among many other honors, teaches Photojournalism I and II and works with the Creightonian photo staff and other students on photo layouts.
Guthrie teaches Computer Illustration, a course based on Photoshop that teaches creation art works through computer manipulation of photos. Guthrie also advises students who select this track. He has been recognized at all levels from local to international for his video and multi-media art work and shows. He has been selected for prestigious and highly competitive residencies to create art at programs in the U.S. and Europe.
More JMC majors in all tracks are completing video photography and/or being exposed to it in writing classes. Staff member Angela Zegers, a highly talented video photographer, assists all faculty with integrating video into their courses in addition to teaching the required JMC 215, Introduction to Mass Communications Technology course.
Creighton photojournalism students have an extraordinary opportunity to master this art from some of the best professors anywhere whose names on recommendation letters open many doors. There are employment opportunities at newspapers, television stations and in industry. Other graduates build their own photography businesses or attend graduate programs in fine arts.
